New Delhi, November 27
The Supreme Court on Friday took cognizance of the fire incident in a COVID-19 hospital at Rajkot, in which several patients have died.
The Supreme Court said it was high time that strict measures were taken to implement the policy, guidelines and SOPs to contain surge of COVID-19 in India.
The Centre assured the Apex Court that the Union Home Secretary would convene a meeting and issue directions on fire safety in government hospitals across India.
“States have to rise to the occasion and have to be above politics to deal with COVID-19 pandemic situation,” the Supreme Court told the Centre.
The Centre said the ongoing COVID-19 wave appeared to be harsher than before and the Apex Court observed strict measures were needed in place to tackle with the surge in cases.
The Centre told the court that 10 states were currently contributing 77 per cent COVID-19 positive cases. PTI
